My law practice has always focused on trust and estate planning, trust and estate administration, charitable planning and related matters. I began my legal career at a larger law firm. Neal Heriaud and I began practicing as Heriaud & Genin, Ltd. in 1999 after concluding that in a small firm setting we could provide sophisticated tax planning advice in a more economical manner to our clients.
I have extensive experience drafting numerous estate planning documents, including Wills, revocable trusts, insurance trusts, qualified personal residence trusts, dynasty trusts, “Crummey” withdrawal trusts, supplemental needs trusts, section 2503(c) trusts, premarital agreements and post-nuptial agreements for clients. I advise clients on wealth transfer tax issues, including estate planning and lifetime gift tax planning. I assist clients in the administration of trusts and probate estates, including the review or preparation of estate tax returns and income tax returns of estates and trusts. I also have experience writing private letter ruling requests to the Internal Revenue Service on both charitable and generation-skipping transfer tax issues and representing clients in the resolution of audits by the Internal Revenue Service.
Charitable planning is particularly interesting to me. I enjoy helping donors realize their dreams to give back to the community. I also take pleasure in advising charitable entities on how to achieve their goals. I set up private foundations and draft and help clients implement charitable trusts. My experience also includes reviewing a pooled income fund agreement, and writing and reviewing charitable brochures for prospective donors.
